Valentine's Day Special
We enjoyed watching the movie 1979 movie "Heartland" starring Rip Torn and Conchata Ferrell.
A recent widow (Ferrell) and her daughter travel to Wyoming in 1910, to work as housekeeper for a stern rancher (Torn). Once there, she decides to try and homestead a piece of land of her own, but the year that follows is full of harsh weather and isolation. A moving drama about life on the frontier based on the real-life frontier diaries of Elinore Randall Stewart. |

Members' Night
We enjoyed watching slides from John Sokash (in PA and other states from the 1960's), Jim Harris (from NC, GA and VA), Art Peterson (Chicago last weekend before Amtrak takeover), and a 1946 British short documentary "The Railwaymen"; we'll fit other's slide into another meeting later in the year.

Art Peterson
During the summer of 2011, Art and Lynette Peterson combined their attendance at the annual convention of the Railroad Station Historical Society in Oklahoma City with a cross-country 9,200-mile Amtrak journey originating in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, close to their home in Greenville. The September program is the second part of a two-part program of slides and anecdotes begun at the August 2011 ONS meeting.

Art Peterson
The Petersons gave us a first-hand look at their Oklahoma adventures, showing the structures they found and photographed prior to and during and following the Railroad Station Historical Society convention. This program was the first of two programs to be presented by Art on their Summer 2011 travels by train.
